A group of dedicated Casey High School students from Mrs. Seaton's Applied Language 3 class (Cohort 2024) have left a lasting impression on their school with the completion of the "Warrior Wigwam" project.

The project began during their junior year as part of a service-learning unit. Inspired by a challenge from Mrs. Seaton to leave a lasting legacy, the students took the initiative. Through brainstorming sessions, they identified areas for improvement within the school and ultimately set their sights on revitalizing the neglected courtyard.

Collaboration and Teamwork Take Center Stage

Following a meticulously crafted action plan and a persuasive presentation to their classmates, the "Warrior Wigwam" project emerged as the clear favorite for their service-learning project the following spring. The students then presented their vision to school administration, gaining immediate approval.

This Spring Brings Action and Valuable Skills

With the green light, the class wasted no time. This semester saw them orchestrate a fundraising campaign, collaborate with various school departments – including maintenance, Ag classes,  Industrial Arts, and Art – to transform the once-forgotten space. Throughout the project, students gained valuable real-world skills essential for their future endeavors.

More Than Just Beautification: Soft Skills Take Root

The project wasn't solely focused on aesthetics. A key focus was fostering crucial soft skills needed for the workforce. Skills like time management, responsibility, and a strong work ethic were emphasized by Mrs. Seaton. Additionally, the project offered unique opportunities to develop practical skills. For example, by taking on the challenge of assembling a prefabricated fence themselves, the students gained valuable experience in following instructions and working effectively as a team – valuable skills applicable to many future careers.

A Lasting Legacy and the Torch is Passed

On their last day of class, the graduating class of 2024 added a final touch – the school's iconic arrowhead logo, forever imprinted alongside their handprints, signifying their lasting mark on the transformed space. They've aptly named it the "Warrior Wigwam."

But the story doesn't end there. The spirit of the Warrior Wigwam lives on! Mrs. Seaton's ELA-4 class has proudly passed the torch of maintaining this creative outdoor learning space to her incoming Applied Language 4 class (Cohort 2025). With excitement, we eagerly await to see their ideas blossom and ensure the Wigwam continues to thrive as a valuable resource for the entire school community.

Stay tuned for further updates on the complete transformation!
