Health Occupation Rocks

CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistants) play a crucial role in patient care, assisting
with activities of daily living in many different settings. Job opportunities abound
for CNAs, and it’s also a significant first step in becoming a nurse. With
classroom time, a built-in clinical rotation, and a chosen rotation, people involved
in the Health Occupations program get a great head start when becoming involved
in the healthcare program. Students enrolled in this class have the opportunity to
assist patients in the St. Anthony hospital, and residents at the nursing home.
Throughout this class, students will have the opportunity to assist
patients/residents, get more comfortable being around healthcare professionals
and settings, and gain new knowledge and experience. Personally, I believe that
not only does this class help you gain multiple skills, but it's also a feel-good
class. You are a big help to the nursing staff at both the hospital and the nursing
home. After completing your clinicals at both the hospital and the nursing home,
you are able to create your own rotations! This allows you to create your own
schedule, specifically for the healthcare field you are interested in. For me, I
chose local clinics, labor and delivery, the surgery center, and my school nurse.
But, you could also pick a veterinary office or a dental office, your choice! After
you complete this, you pick your favorite and stay there for a month. Finally, in
the month of March, you are able to sit for the CNA test. If passed, you are
officially a CNA! Health Occupations is a great class to take if you are interested
in the healthcare program! If you are interested in joining Health Occupations,
please go see Mrs. Honselman.
